Finding the right book for the right group of kids is one of the main components of a successful storytime. To assist those of us hunting for the perfect read- aloud, we’ve created a Storytime Book Review playlist that will feature quick, two-minute reviews of our favourite storytime books. These videos will include:
- A brief plot summary
- A few glimpses of the illustrations
- Reasons the book is a great storytime pick
- Thematic connections
- Early literacy tips
To help us out, we’ve enlisted the aid of our friend Mackie! Here’s a little about Mackie:
Mackie is excited to be entering her second year of her MLIS program. She has a background in Community Development, and in the future wants to work in a public library with underserved children. Her favourite characters are Nobody Owens (from the Graveyard Book), Olivia (the pig), and Princess Elizabeth (the Paperbag Princess). She spends most of her free time curled up with a good book and one of her two cats.

I’d like to recommend the children’s book, Chilly Milly Moo. Although I could be easily accused of bias – my sister wrote and illustrated this book – I can easily say it is a joy to read and look at and has a wonderful sentiment, in that we’re all special and talented. Many reviews have agreed and the story and illustrations have won enormous praise. I’ve included two links for you to learn more, including one to a video of someone reading this to their child at bedtime. I do hope you check Chilly Milly Moo out but either way I’d like to thank jbrary for their wonderful songs that my 20 month old daughter and I sing along to every – and I do mean every! – day.
